The day starts out on side roads until we hit route 4 again, which we will ride on for most of the day. It is recommended to start the day early and not to lose too much time on the way in order to spend some hours in Riga before heading out to the campground. We’ll reach downtown at around 133 km of the day’s ride.
Riga is a beautiful city and well worth the visit (if we had the time we could have stayed another day, but we don’t).
The approach to Riga follows smaller roads, taking a bit of a detour but avoiding some heavier traffic.
A bit of fiddling is needed with an eye on the GPS track as the route leads into town. For a visit to the city center go straight riding by the park on the left, before entering the bridge.
On the other side of the river, it will be side roads (including some rather small ones to avoid a motor way) to the campground in Jurmala.
There also is a bike route out of Riga into Jurmala, I have been told. It may be nice for us as well – if local cyclists will guide us on that route.
742 m of climbing. Track for the day:
Lunch Rest Stop
There’s a couple of villages by the sea, like Saulkrasti, about 85 km into the ride (track has turned off the main road shortly before). Lunch should be available there.
A ride along with Latvian cyclists is under preparation. They may meet us on our way to the city and ride into Riga with us. Also, the plan is to be offered a short tour to Riga by local riders, either by velomobnile or on foot, followed by a café or beer garden stop before heading out to the campgound.
Around 15:00 we will gather at 11. novembra krastmala between Vansu bridge and Stone bridge.
